Heart to Heart
Diana and I have a small book that sometimes makes an appearance on our coffee table. The title says it all – “Change is Good!” But the punch line is in the sub-title: “You Go First…”
Ready or not, change is coming. We’re quickly shifting into another Fall season, with college classes already starting, schools gearing up for a new school year, and parents frantically trying to keep up with the pace of changes that are coming at you faster than you want.
So, is change good? Some of us would rather things stay the same, because change disrupts the routine that we’ve grown used to. Change can’t happen apart from the rearranging of priorities and schedules, to align with our focus. So take one more glance in the rearview mirror of your summer vacations and trips to the lake or mountains. But then look ahead as Fall brings all kinds of fresh opportunities to experience life at a whole different level.
We’ve already navigated some significant changes as we moved through August. For the first time in many years, we hosted a VBS day camp. The Sonrise VBS focused on knowing Jesus as the true source of our peace, because of His great love, which gives us eternal hope. While we had a small group of children, they were highly engaged, and we had an awesome VBS staff. Thanks to Gayla and her team of 15 adults who invested in these children. Heaven celebrated as gave their life to Jesus, forever changing their eternal future. Change is good!
Speaking of changes, starting Sept.23rd, we will offer a 7-week Love & Logic parenting class. We’re looking for some volunteers to watch toddlers in the nursery, and others to help with food as we offer a simple meal at 5:30pm, followed by the class at 6:30pm. Pray that we can put tools in the toolbox of busy parents, helping them to teach their children how to make good decisions.
Another change we’re navigating is looking for people willing to step up & give leadership to some key ministries. Right now, we have leadership openings in Guest Services, the Safety Team, our High Mileage Seniors ministry team, and LIFE group leaders. Change is good – are you willing to be first and step into a larger role this Fall?
As you read through the newsletter, you’re going to discover yet another change. Lynn & Marsha Fauque are retiring from serving as our church custodians. We are searching now for someone who might want to take on that vital role. Keep reading for job details on this part-time paid position.
Through every change, the Sovereign LORD has His way, and moves us closer to fulfilling His plans and purposes, which leads to Christ’s return. Change truly is good.
